Trey Schmaltz is an award-winning producer for KNOE 8 News. As producer, he manages the 5:00 and 10:00 news and also manages news content on KNOE.com. Trey joined the KNOE news team in the summer of 2009, moving to Monroe from Lafayette, Louisiana.
Born in New Orleans, Trey was raised in Ponchatoula and graduated from Ponchatoula High School. That’s where he got his start in television news.
Trey has been in the television industry since he was 14! As a freshman in high school he created, anchored, and produced a teen news program for WSTY in Hammond, LA. From there, he went to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and became the weekend producer for KATC.
After producing weekend news he became KATC.com producer. He also anchored a weekly entertainment webcast for KATC.com. From the Internet, Trey went back to television news producing, later serving as 6:00 and 10:00 producer.
Trey also worked with the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce in producing their television show in Lafayette called the “Business Connection.”
Trey lives in West Monroe. “I’m a big ‘news nerd,’” says Trey, “I’ll talk to you all day about television news.” In addition to keeping the ArkLaMiss updated with the very latest breaking news, he also enjoys swimming and exploring North Louisiana. “I love history, and I’m always looking for a new adventure.” He likes to eat too, and sample the best local food. If you are lucky, you might also get him to spout off a few lines of South Louisiana French too!
In his spare time, Trey likes to volunteer and help make a difference in the community. He has Associated Press awards for television producing and also website news management.
If you have a news tip, a great place Trey should visit, or a great place he should eat, send him an email!
